Homemade Ice Cream from THRIVE? YOU BET!

So I am on a mission to prove that you can make anything with THRIVE!  Not only make it, but make it better!!  A couple of weeks ago I decided to tackle homemade ice cream.  Since our THRIVE Butter Powder has such a strong butter taste, I ended up adding pecans to it and making butter pecan ice cream.  But I wasn't really happy with it.

So I decided that a Memorial Day cookout at my brother's was the perfect reason to give it another try!
And I must say that it turned out great!
How does it look to you?
So here it is....and it is soooo easy!!

8 cups THRIVE Instant Milk, prepared
1 1/2 cup THRIVE Powdered Butter, prepared
2 cups THRIVE Sugar
2 1/2 T of Vanilla  (adjust to taste)

To prepare Instant Butter, add water to butter and wisk well.  Start with 1/2 cup water, then add water 1/8 cup at a time until butter is the consistency of pancake batter.
Wisk in Sugar and then the vanilla.
To prepare instant milk, add the powder to water and wisk in.   Slowly wisk into butter and sugar mixture.   Mix well and pour into your ice cream freezer.  To cut down on the freezer time, prepare your milk ahead of time and chill.
Oh, and don't forget that our THRIVE Instant Milk
is fat free!
This makes a nice rich vanilla ice cream.  I got so many compliments on this and it was so easy!
To make it Butter Pecan Flavor, double the butter and add pecans according to your freezers instructions.  I say this because some freezers like you to wait until the ice cream is starting to thicken before adding the nuts so they don't all fall to the bottom.  The Butter Pecan was good, but my bunch like the vanilla better!

I paired it with our Triple Berry Crisp from our THRIVE Cookbook.  Here is that recipe.

  • 1 1⁄2 c thrive freeze dried blackberries, rehydrated
  • 1 1⁄2 c thrive freeze dried raspberries, reconstituted
  • 1 1⁄2 c thrive freeze dried blueberries, reconstituted
  • 2 T thrive white sugar
  • 1 c thrive white flour
  • 1 c thrive quick oats
  • 3⁄4 c thrive brown sugar, packed
  • 1⁄2 t ground cinnamon
  • 1⁄4 t ground nutmeg
  • 3⁄4 c cold butter, cubed

*Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
*In a large bowl, gently toss together blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and white sugar; set aside.
*In a separate large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in butter until crumbly.
*Press half of mixture in the bottom of an 8x8-inch pan. Cover with berries, then sprinkle remaining crumble mixture over the top.
*Bake for 30-40 minutes (or until fruit is bubbly and topping is golden brown).

This was sooo good!!

Pork Chops with Raspberry Sauce and sauteed green beans

Any time I cook with THRIVE I try to take pictures to show you that I do really cook with this food all the time! I'm not trying to sell you something that I don't feed to my family!  My hubby always asks if I am done playing with dinner so he can eat!  Please try to remember that I am an old school kind of cook!  I don't really measure if I am not following a recipe, so adjust seasonings to taste!

Today I am going to share pork chops with raspberry sauce and sauteed green beans.

YUMMY!!  We love the green beans this way!  Measure about 1/2 cup THRIVE Freeze Dried Green Beans per serving and about 1 to 1 1/2 tsp of Freeze Dried Onions per serving.  Some of the Freeze Dried Mushrooms would be great in here too!  Soak in water for about 15 minutes.

Soak 1/2 cup Freeze Dried Raspberries per serving in apple juice or in THRIVE Peach Drink, just enough to cover them.  Sprinkle 1tsp sugar on top and stir.  Let set.
Meanwhile season pork chops as desired and coat in bread crumbs.  Add a few Tbs olive oil (or oil of choice) to pan.  Cook chops until juices run clear.  Remove chops from the pan.  Add raspberries and juice to pan and bring to a boil.  Simmer and stir frequently until juice is reduced and slightly thickened.  Place a few. spoonfuls on top of cooked pork chop

To finish the green beans drain beans and onions.  Heat about 2 tablespoons oil (ok I confess....I used bacon grease.) in skillet.  Saute onions and 1/2 tsp minced garlic (adjust to taste) until onions are clear.  Add green beans, stirring to coat.  Stir frequently, cooking until beans are tender.

Enjoy!  A dinner that looks complicated but is made so easy thanks to THRIVE!

Let me know if you try it!

A Well-Balanced Diet Just Got Easier

Gone are the days of the old food pyramid and the 4 basic food groups.  The New Food Pyramid is a tool to educate people to eat a more balanced diet from a greater variety of food choices without counting calories. The USDA has now expanded the four food groups to six groups and expanded the number of servings to meet the calorie needs of most people.

The New Pyramid, or MyPyramid, is color coded. Orange for grains, green for vegetables, red for fruits, blue for dairy, purple for meats and beans, and yellow for fats, oil, sugars, and basics.
Shelf Reliance has incorporated these colors on each label of THRIVE products. All your grains are easily recognized by their orange labeling, and your veggie by their green label, your fruits by their red label and so forth.
Our color coded cans keep your food conveniently organized while ensuring your diet contains the proper amount of balance and variety. When used in conjunction with our Food Rotation Systems, THRIVE Foods are continually rotated, guaranteeing your family receives the freshest food possible.
THRIVE has made planning, preparing, and storing healthy & nutritious meals for your family simpler than ever before!!
